Who is Lid Dixon?

Lid Dixon is an American singer and songwriter known for writing lyrics that explore poetic structures in interesting ways (and for an obsession with hats). He has been compared to Elliot Smith, Lou Reed, Paul Westerberg, and Jeff Tweedy. He released 2 records in the early 2000s and then took a break from recording and performing. After moving to Ft. Collins in 2021, he returned to recording and performing.

Dixon grew up at 9,000 feet in the Rocky Mountains of Colorado. His childhood home was actually a log cabin that didn't get TV or radio reception more than it did. By the time Dixon was in his 20s he had a lot of catching up to do musically -- not knowing anything about The Stones, Dylan, Pink Floyd, Bob Marley, etc. The cabin was filled mostly with sounds of Waylon & Willie, Sons of the Pioneers, and Merle Haggard, which Dixon didn't appreciate until later in life. Albums like Bob Dylan's 30th anniversary concert and Return of the Grievous Angel did Dixon a great service by introducing him to a variety of artists performing songs that clicked with his musical tastes. He started writing his own songs.

After a solid 8-years of studying drugs[1], Dixon landed in Washington DC. It was there he wrote and recorded 2 albums. The first, "Bohemian Kings," was released in 2000 and established Dixon's lyrical prowess and affinity for crafting dark portrayals of lost souls and rambling spirits. The second album, "Silk & Cotton," builds on the styles introduced on the first album but with a few more hooks. It was never officially released.

After finishing "Silk & Cotton," Dixon moved to Austin, Texas. Oddly, it was there he decided to take a break from the artist side of music. He focused his energy on the indie record label, "B.O.S. Music" and their first signing, Railroad Earth. Although Austin was rich with the music Dixon loves, he moved to Philadelphia, PA within a year. The music scene in Philly was a great match for Dixon. His unofficial hiding ended and he began popping into open mic nights to "test-drive" new material and opening a few shows for friends.

In 2023, Dixon released a 5-song EP entitled, "Parlor Trick" that was recorded at Stout Studios in Fort Collins, Colorado. The EP includes 4 original songs and a cover of Scott Nolan's, "Bad Liver / Broken Heart."

In 2024, Dixon released an EP entitled, "Rodeo Clown." It includes 5 studio recordings – 4 songs written by Dixon and a cover of "Walk on the Wild Side" by Lou Reed. The EP was recorded at Swingfinger Studios and includes contributions from Tobias Bank (Whippoorwill, Sound of Honey), Bradley Morse (Gasoline Lollipops, Bonnie and Taylor Sims), Eric Wiggs , Aaron Youngberg (FY5), John Magnie (Subdudes), Taylor Tesler, Christine Alice, and Erin Youngberg (FY5).

So, "who is Lid Dixon," you ask? When asked that exact question he replied, "That is a great question. If you figure it out, please let me know." Talk about cagey...just look for the guy with the nice "lid."

[1] Dixon earned a Doctor of Pharmacy degree from the University of Kentucky, yet no one ever calls him "Doctor."

Rodeo Clown (2024)

Dixon's fourth collection of studio recordings was recorded at Swingfingers Studio in Fort Collins, Colorado. It includes contributions from John Magnie (Subdudes), Bradley Morse (Gasoline Lollipops), Tobias Bank (Sound of Honey, Whippoorwill), Eric Wiggs (Jake Leg), Aaron Youngberg (FY5), Christine Alice, Taylor Tesler (West Joe and the Men of Soul, Spider Cat, Ansel & the Brain Tattoos), and Erin Youngberg (FY5). Parlor Trick (2023)

Dixon's third collection of studio recordings. The 5-song EP was recorded at Stout Studios in Fort Collins, Colorado. It includes 4-original songs and "Bad Liver / Broken Heart" by Scott Nolan.



Silk & Cotton (2001)

The second collection of studio recordings were recorded in Washington DC in 2000-2001. The record was never officially released. Includes 9 original songs and "Eat My Soul" by Jerry Joseph and "Feelin' Good Again" by Robert Earl Keen. Produced, engineered and mixed by Marco Delmar.



Bohemian Kings

Dixon's debut recording is a collection of original songs that were inspired by or deal with heros of the more bohemian side of life — bohemian kings if you will. Recorded in 1999-2000 in Washington DC. This record includes the following tracks:

I performed naked. It was at Red Rocks in Colorado. My guitar was a great fig leaf, so it wasn't so bad for me ... or them. Plus, just the chance to be on stage at Red Rocks was a dream. Literally a dream. When I woke up I was on a natural high all day. Really, it doesn't matter where I play. I just love doing it. Preferably with clothes...

Versatile and professional Americana/rock music. Lid Dixon has played all kinds of shows - intimate spaces (e.g., winery, coffee shops, bookstore), corporate events, bars/restaurants, festivals, and theatres.

Lid Dixon live performances are customized for the space and audience, which can be solo acoustic, a duo with bass and vocal harmonies, a trio with bass, vocal harmonies, and electric guitar or percussion, and as a full band. Set lists included a mix of covers and originals – but what we perform is customized just as much as how we perform.
